Would
you believe that there are eighty acres of pristine wilderness dotted
with cottages, campsites, and nature trials; a state of the art
“Green” Visitor’s Center; twenty-five miles of
waterways for boating and canoeing; a nine-hole golf course; and an
airstrip in Clinch County? Well there is . . . and it’s all part
of the Stephen C. Foster State Park in Fargo, which welcomes over
100,000 visitors each year.
The Clinch Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors recently held their June meeting in Fargo and were treated to a private tour of the facilities courtesy of State Park Administrator Sam Williams and Fargo Mayor Robbie Lee. After visiting the Suwannee River Visitor Center, which employs the latest in environmental conservation technology, board members also toured the nearly completed and very impressive Suwannee River Eco-Lodge and Cabins. The Eco-Lodge not only has a beautiful conference center with a total of three conference rooms and a catering kitchen, but also has ten cabins, complete with full kitchens, that are conveniently connected to the center via covered walkways. Four of the cabins are “bunk” cabins, which are designed to accommodate up to 15 people, four of the cabins are moderately priced two bedroom cabins; and the remaining two cabins are larger luxury two bedroom cabins in which each bedroom has a private entrance. Board members also enjoyed a delicious meal at the Suwannee Rive Café, compliments of Mayor Robbie Lee.
As the recreation hot spot of Clinch County, Fargo will be a major focus of the Chamber’s newly updated website, which will be debuted in July. Because the internet is quickly becoming the source for up-to-date information, and more and more people are turning to their computers to plan a family vacation, explore day trip opportunities in their area, and research new and interesting places to live, an informative chamber of commerce website is essential to the economic development of a community. Recognizing this trend the Chamber is developing a new website that will highlight local economic development, cater to prospective visitors, and welcome newcomers. In addition to emphasizing the recreational opportunities available in Fargo, the new site will also promote the City of Homerville’s expanding airport, which averages two hundred planes per month and is gaining popularity among pilots as a friendly and accommodating detour.
The Chamber is also planning an extensive membership drive to develop an online interactive business directory linking visitors with participating restaurants, retail establishments, lodging, and other local attractions. The new website will also include a newcomer guide to the area listing member utilities, churches, clubs, heath care services, insurance agencies, realtors, and home services as well as provide information on local industry, education, and government. For more information about having your local business listed in the Clinch County Chamber of Commerce’s Business Directory, please contact the Chamber at 487-2360.
