Join in the fun at a Festival that has something for everyone!
The Timberland Jubilee, sponsored by the Clinch County Chamber of Commerce, is the local community's annual festival celebrating the effect the timber industry has had on the area. Back in 1991, local officials in Clinch County floated the idea of organizing a festival celebrating the timber industry's impact on the area. The idea took hold and after sorting through a few hundred submissions from local citizens, a name was selected and the Timberland Jubilee was officially born.
The inaugural festival, which was held in the month of October, featured an arts and craft fair, timber industry related informational booths, a beauty pageant, fun run, team timber contests, and a street dance, as well as a variety of local delicacies and mouth watering treats. Eventually the crowd size and number of vendors began to grow and in 2005 the festival was moved from the area around the Homerville Municipal Complex to a new location on the campus of Clinch County High School. The new grounds centered around a lake offered more accessible power and water facilities, larger booth spaces, and ample parking. After 2007's Jubilee, organizers once again decided to improve the festival by moving it to the spring to avoid conflicts with other area community festivals.
The 17th incarnation of the Timberland Jubilee, which was held on March 8, 2008, turned out to be a great success despite the less than ideal weather. The festival offered arts and crafts; antiques and collectibles; delicious food; entertainment for kids including pony rides, a petting zoo, and Thomas the Train; a timber sawing and cutting competition with cash prizes in several different categories; the Miss Timberland Jubilee pageant; an art contest for local students; the Timberland Idol talent contest; and the annual street dance featuring the Swingin' Medallions.
The Timberland Jubilee attracts at least 8,000 people with around 100 - 150 vendors for visitors to enjoy. There is always room for unique handmade craft items, folk and fine art and antiques and collectibles. Anyone with something to display or sell of this nature is welcome to come on down and enjoy the day with all of the good folks in Homerville. Information regarding the 2009 festival, including a schedule of events, vendor applications, and contest details, will be forthcoming.
